Application: Rat C-Peptide-1 corresponds to the endogenous connecting peptide cleaved from proinsulin during insulin maturation. Beyond its role as a marker of insulin secretion, C-peptide displays biological activity by binding to cell surfaces and likely signaling through a G protein-coupled receptor. It activates Ca²⁺-dependent intracellular pathways and stimulates Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase and endothelial nitric oxide synthase. In rats, C-peptide has been shown to reduce glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in vivo and in vitro. Rat C-Peptide-1 is widely used in diabetes, metabolism, renal physiology, vascular biology, and insulin-related signaling research.
