Application: Mastoparan is a 14-residue amphipathic peptide originally isolated from wasp venom and known for inducing histamine release from mast cells. In its cell-permeable form, Mastoparan can disrupt mitochondrial membrane integrity and induce permeabilization through a cyclosporin A-inhibitable mechanism. This peptide is widely used to study mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis, G-protein activation, membrane–peptide interactions, toxicology, and cell signaling pathways. Mastoparan is valuable for research on mast cell activation, peptide-induced membrane disruption, mitochondrial permeability transition, intracellular signaling, and mechanisms linking amphipathic peptides to cellular stress responses.
